I have been to several Inca structures in Peru & Bolivia. The ones around Cuzco and Machu Pichu are the most incredible. The most amazing thing about them is that the tools used in the construction has never been found. There is not a single stone cutting tool in any of those museums and when you ask the curater about it, he shrugs his shoulders and say. 'No conocermos'. . .we don't know. If it was copper hammers and chisels. . .why was not one found, besides copper is softer than the granite and would not have lasted for one hour. I have seen plumb-bobs made out of copper and some out of 'chompe' which is a mix of gold and copper to shoot a straight vertical wall. Additionally many of those blocks weigh several tons each.
Truely one of the world's premier wonders, we must give them the credit.

Hi, there,

I'm the co-founder of Motto and I just found your post about our Facebook page and our company. Thank you for posting this and I'm glad you found something on our page that you enjoyed. We are currently doing a series, the first Tuesday of every month, called Behind the Brand™ where we take people behind the brand of some of the most inspiring companies doing business today. It's mostly smaller, innovative brands, like charity:water, Overlooked, Vitamin Angels, Kopali Organics and Seventh Generation. If you're interested, have a look www.facebook.com/mottoagency and thanks again for the post! I'll link back to you on one of our upcoming blog posts.

I don't think Armenia, in signing this agreement, has mooted the findings of hundreds of historians, including Turkish scholars. The "historical commission" may turn out to be an obvious charade, or it may prove to be the moment when Turkey grows up.

And speaking of obvious charades: the Washington Post can go to hell. Oh, wait---it's already there. Never mind.

Thanks for a fair-minded piece on the protocols. You say, "I think the opinions of Armenians in Armenia trump the feelings of those abroad." And I agree -- but only when it's only their own interests that are at stake. By submitting to the charade of a 'historical commission' to investigate whether a genocide occurred or not, they went further and put the wider Armenian community's interests up for grabs. And sure enough, Turkey is already using the protocols as a reason for opposing the latest Armenian Genocide resolution.

I'll echo the sympathy you express for opponents and say I'm sympathetic to the leaders and citizens of Armenia who need some way out of the economic and realpolitik jam they're in. But I think it was highly improper for them to agree to the historical commission provisions of these protocols -- and it was highly improper for US elites to pressure them to do so. Witness WaPo's editorial on the matter, with the unbelievable line: "The genocide issue — and the refusal of some in the American Armenian community to compromise on it — still threatens to undo the deal.” Substitute "Holocaust" and "Jewish" for "genocide" and "Armenian" and imagine any deal worth defending on that basis.

What a coinkidink: the Sept/Oct University of Chicago Magazine has an article that uses this alphabet as an illustration. Turns out the Motto folks didn't concoct it. An artist named Heidi Cody did, and the work is called American Alphabet (2000). The credit line has been duly changed.

It probably depends on how you intend to use it, but if you're in doubt, you should ask the folks who compiled it! I didn't, but I think it's fair use. At the very least, it's free advertising for them. ;-) We should probably also keep in mind there are 26 sources for that graphic, in addition to the clever mind that compiled it. (Can you see why I have a Creative Commons license on this site?)

I thought I had provided links, but I guess I forgot. They're there now. The Facebook link takes you right to the page with the alphabet and responses. It looks like someone got all of them right (unless the Motto folks were pulling her leg).
